Player-killing? THIS...IS....GRIMDAAAAAAAAAAAAARK!

In the 40 year history of tabletop games, I don't think there's been a more abused excuse than "I was playing my character."

I don't know for sure whether you were intentionally making a dick move or just being dumb, but I can tell you for sure that that passive-aggressive remark at the end of your post accusing us of all forgetting how GRIMDARK this game is doesn't help your position. I wasn't even going to post this reply, figuring you had learned your lesson because of how bad a vibe you got for your actions, but since you couldn't help yourself I feel I can't keep silent.

In the grim darkness of the 41st Millennium, you would have gotten a bullet in the brain the first time you accidentally friendly-fired your companions, to say nothing of this recent stunt.

My character had the trait Duty to the Throne. So basically he really really REALLY hates Xenos. According to your logic, the proper thing for me to do when Nitz boarded the Cruiser was to kill him. Seeing as how the Guncutter's weapons were broke, the best option would have been to ram him into the wall using the Guncutter as a blunt instrument. And I completely agree. I would have killed a PC for no other reason than he was playing a rare character, and would have wrecked the Guncutter, which was necessary for the plot to advance, wasting 3 hours of everyone's time getting to know each other and repairing the guncutter for a trip to a Yu'Vath fortress. For a new character being invited to an already existing group, I felt this was a dick move for obvious reasons.

You chose to use your Lidless Stare knowing full well that half the party, including the three new people who don't know you or your character's backstory, OR that he has a tendency to accidentally fry peoples brains (I sure as shit would have chosen to stand the hell away from you then) were in your way, nearly killing three new players to your game, two of which have a grand total of zero experience with Rogue Trader between the two of them, and all of which have spent a grand total of less than six hours roleplaying with you. This was a dick move, for obvious reasons.

You know what? Among friends who you've been gaming with for over a year, who know your quirks, that you like to play complicated, tortured, characters, this would have totally been appropriate. And I'm sure you, Daxia, Noradine, and Faiz have been playing for a long time together. But guess what? The rest of us? Complete strangers from across the world, who quite frankly have better things to do with their 3 hours than get sodomized by something as stupid as a character quirk.

In the grim, dark future of the 41st Millenium, I always have the option to walk. I'm afraid I will not be joining the group for any future sessions, Lando. I apologize for wasting your time.

Its worth noting Nitz has Sanctioned Xeno.
Its also worth noting I think he plays he character exceptionally well.

I also think the use of his power was fitting from what I know and have seen.
Just my 3 cents.

Kade, I get you're angry, but I think you completely misunderstood the point of my post. It was not that my character is angsty and shows this through random mind-melting, with the dark setting as an excuse. It was that he was temporarily insane as a result of a plot point (exposure to the Yu'vath fortress). Crazy people tend to do crazy things. Also, you're reading way too much into my last statement. It was meant only to state that bad things are inevitable in 40k, not as a passive-aggressive snark intimating my immunity from retribution or anger.

If everyone would prefer, and Lando agrees, I would be fine with replaying the landing for a different outcome, so that the issue is moot. I'll apologize again, as angering anyone was truly not my intent. And I'll promise that this won't be an issue in the future. Or as another option, if the consensus be that my actions were unacceptable, I am willing to withdraw in the interest of party cohesion.

I would disagree, I think that it was neither in character nor was it fair on other people especially the expectation that we sacrifice our characters for an in-character moment.

You are a navigator, a prepared individual who set out to seek fame and fortune amongst the outer reaches of humanity's 'safe zone', you see crazy warp shit all the time, you have the second highest if not highest willpower in the party. The party had not done anything strange or weird like talk in other languages or have sudden personality changes so there was no reason to prompt such rampant paranoia. In grimdark, bad things do happen sometimes, alot of the time to people who don't deserve it, sometimes we may get hurt or fight things that we will find difficult that does not mean we should have to implicitly worry about the only friendly people we know, flipping out for no reason and shooting us in the back.

Second, what you displayed was is mechanically represented, its a very high (131-140 rolled) result on the fear test failure chart something which you neither suffered from nor were you forced to roll on. What would have been more fair and realistic would have been to ask to roll on the mental traumas table (if you did not already qualify for going over 10 insanity points) which gives you a temporary (several rounds - couple of hours - a few days depending on result) insanity.

Finally from a gaming perspective, you hit us in the back with one of the more deadly attacks that exist in the game right before we are entering a dangerous Yu'vath fortress which is unfair on us and irresponsible of you, we now have a very real chance of losing one our few fate points permanently in the next few sessions This directly affects the lifespan of our characters in this game and I don't want to lose my character as I feel attached to him and have spent a long time trying to define his personality.

In summation, I think your response was entirely inappropriate to the situation but never-the-less this event has come as much as a surprise to as to anyone else despite my prior history with Regias. In addition I would caution that I never feel it is best for people to leave a game unless its because of long-term resentment or constant arguing or griefing from one or more characters and I don't want either of you to leave. I would much revert it, deal with the IG situation like have the captain give orders and carry on.

On a side note: In-character I hate roshi's character; I find him loud, brutish and obnoxious and it is for those exact reason I think he is terrifically well roleplayed. GJ

I am fine with either playing later or playing on a different day, pretty much any day is fine.

I'm fine with redoing that whole scene over after everyone failed their Willpower tests and having Regias make a trauma test for his over insansity hit. I'd rather not see anyone quit or fight or get upset, but I do think what happened shouldn't have, ya'll got a tough bit left to handle and being dead or near dead by a fellow party member isn't going to help resolve this.

Regias is an interesting character, but he wouldn't just warp eye his friends/captain unless he was possessed by daemons or something. That hasn't happened yet.

Guns and other means can take down the two insane (for the moment) IG soldiers, or you could just subdue them or something too. Martek could wipe them as well if needed, since they are his "men".

In hindsight, I can admit it was a poor decision and that I both exaggerated Regias' probable reaction to the ruins and failed to adequately consider the consequences. I also understand why many of you responded with anger and why my actions predisposed Kade to view any later statements in light of this precedent. My sincere apologies. I could cite reasons for my lapse in judgment, but those are private, beyond the scope of the game, and ultimately mere excuses. I too wish that this sequence had never occurred, but unfortunately it has and I cannot change that. Moreover, I fear the justified anger at my actions may cause resentment and sour the game, even with the reset. That said, I would like to continue playing, but only with the agreement of the entire party. The game is supposed to be fun, and I don't wish to be an impediment to that. If any of you feel that you cannot continue to play with me, as the one at fault, I will bow out.

Post Re: Rogue Trader 40K (Recruiting 1 spot)
Just two things to say:

First of all, I'm bowing out of the game. While the whole fiasco did contribute a little to my leaving, the main reason is that I kind of feel that the game's getting a little too cluttered, with 8 PCs and one DMNPC, which slows stuff to a crawl. We pretty much spent four hours just getting to the citadel. This isn't anyone's fault in the main; just that there's too much going on at the same time, which is not handled so easily online due to the speed of typing vs talking.

Second of all, my only comment on the tragedy of Yuvathgate is that there's, y'know, a Shock and Trauma table for fear and insanity. And there's actually a 'fire frenzy' result on there, as Hidersine noted. That aside, while I appreciate that it might have been good roleplaying to attack like that, you could've re-rolled that incredibly tough to beat WP result to reflect that the intention isn't to wipe half your team.

Finally (I lied about only having two things to say), thanks to everyone. While it hasn't been entirely smooth, it's still been a mostly pleasant experience, and I'm glad to have to met and roleplayed with you guys.

As I have driven off 3 of our four new members, and I am sure other players harbor similar feelings, I cannot in good conscience stand in the way of the game any further. I am sorry, Lando and others, that my involvement has to end on such a sour note due to my own actions, as I have enjoyed this campaign. Perhaps when I have dealt with some personal issues, some of you might be willing to game me with in the future. Perhaps not. Either way I understand and appreciate the time and effort put into making the game work. I wish you all luck in the future of the campaign. Please feel free to use Regias as you wish.

Well, that's the end of that then. This game and campaign is over and done with. Once I see how my classes/work load goes with school this semester and if I get the new job I'm interviewing for on Wed the 19th, I'll consider restarting/revamping the game, perhaps go with a crossover or something.
