Welcome to the Grim Dark Future... ;) I own Deathwatch and am using a NPC Deathwatch pc (only survivor) in the current storyline as an experiment, which I've modified heavily. I've yet to play it and GM it, but I will be using it and Dark Heresy in this game going forward at some point from time to time.

Our resident Seneschal who has been to every game corrected me previously on how much XP I've awarded out. So base 4500+500 to start, plus +2100 I've awarded. So everyone should be Rank 2.

As long as it fits your character and you give me a reasonable explanation/background to make it believeable I'm alright with some changes. You can take elite advances if you wish for skills/talents not on your class options. I've permitted a lot of customization with some of the long term pcs and I am permitting most of the material from Into The Storm. I also have Edge of the Abyss which I'll be reading/using for GM things..

Looks like I've had 3 inquiries with one full submission so far for the four open slots. The other two are pending upon me receiving completed pcs. Still have an opening for a Missionary.

Reminder, no more sessions until after New Year's. I will have my new class schedule by then and it might or might not affect the game.

I submitted an initial character sheet to you at about 9 PM. I know it's the holidays so no rush to look at it. I think I covered everything but there were a few questions I had. The book seems very cryptic about Stage 3 in the character-generation process. I sent them all to you in an e-mail, along with a .txt file covering all the steps and the dice rolls for Fate and Wound rating.

Look forward to playing, assuming my sheet gets your approval. I'm a very reliable player!

I was just reading the Acquisition Rules this morning and realized the item I requisitioned was
A. A ridiculous waste of a free acquisition at its scarcity
B. Unattainable because Void-Masters dont get Basic Weapons (Universal) until Rank 3.

So at the very least I'll be re-submitting my acquisition to you after initial input.

All acquisitions are 'free' per se. You just make a check against the Profit Factor, rather than spend any currency. While we get an acquisition specifically between adventures, per Lando, we could also make acquisition checks, if desired and with Lando's permission, at any port or appropriate venue.

I was referring to the no-roll +0 modifier acquisition you are allowed at character generation per Chapter I, P. 34 and elaborated on in Chapter IX, P. 272. The rule specifically says you can't pick an item you lack the proper training for (I was going to give my character a Lasgun, but found out it required the Basic Weapon Training - Universal talent)
And it would have been better spent on Storm Trooper carapace armor.

Like I said, first time! Only picked up the book last night as a Christmas present. :D It's been really a learn-as-I-go process with character generation and I deleted everything two times over after realizing I either misinterpreted and screwed something up or the concept just didn't go in the direction I wanted it to. Also the Calamity/Dark Voyage/Ship-Lorn choices really seem to blur together for me, story-wise. I'd consider the Geller Field failing and daemons swarming all over your ship a combination of all three, wouldn't you?

The main thing I need an answer to at the moment is this: Do I start with any skills (other than ones acquired by origin) BEFORE the 500 starting XP + the 2100 to get me caught up with the rest of the group? Or do I need to invest that 500 into my initial skills like first-level Pilot, Weapon Training talents, etc.?

Good choice in Christmas gift. I love Rogue Trader. I just ordered the new Book of Matyrs for Dark Heresy and intend to use it with Rogue Trader. Run any acquisitions by me first, but you can get most things reasonably that are a +0 cost. Be sure you download the errata for Rogue Trader from Fantasy Flight Games download page. All careers get specific skills to start with (they're listed above your equipment on the career), then you make any new purchases with your 500 xp to start with from the Rank 1 choices or you can try to buy an elite advance from another career if you want something you don't typically have access too. The 2100 extra xp goes with Rank 1 and then Rank 2 once you obtain Rank 2 options. Again you may make elite advances if you wish, but they do get costly.
