If you can find the Bard's Middle-Earth CD or buy it from them, its fantastic. http://www.thebards.net/shows/venues/DragonCon.shtml

You can spend pts until you got a 100% then no need to roll. Otherwise transfer the pts you don't spend to something else per the rules. Just keep track of what you do so I can see it.

Almost done...will send tonight. +60 with the bow, +55 thrown!!! Geez, my warrior's best weapon (sword) is +63 (and that's due to his +3 class bonus). My next best weapon is +48 (bow). I guess I'll be standing behind you then

Those are indeed impressive bonuses. I do't think my Ranger is anywhere near that. Are you sure you calculated them right, Amaraxis?

I will be going over pcs with a fine toothed comb from the looks of it, some folks are min/maxing or not following the DP transfer pt rules properly. If you signed up to min/max, this isn't the game for you. I give lots of exp for good roleplaying, team work etc. If you're here to be the loner badass fighter who wants to hog the glory, you wlil be facing a citadel of Sauron's forces alone..

Re: Middle-Earth (MERP) RPG (no openings)
I didn't min/max. As a Burglar, I dumped my high stat into Ag, and did the +2 Background bonus (only stat boost). So +30 Base, +15 from being a Hobbit, 2 ranks from Being a Hobbit in ranged and thrown, and my ONLY point from weapons in missle.
Yeah, my bonus might be big now, but I do not get any bonuses from leveling in weapons, and I only get 1 weapon DP a level.... To me, it made sense for him to not to want to be a melee fighter (-20 Str bonus)
My other bonuses are not bad, but I was just lucky in rolling. I also added in how I spent my BP. My "big" skills are Stalk/Hide (5 base, +1 DP) and Perception (4 base and +1 DP). But as we lvl wysiwyg, you will quickly outshine him in combat since I will prob focus on ranged/thrown....I would need 4 levels just to make up for his STR penalty and he is not that tough nor does he wear armor yet....
My subterfuge skills will go up fast (2 +2 and 2 +1/level since I get 8 DPs for Subterfuge)...but combat is not what his does if he can avoid it.
One question -> Can I even learn magic? The way it seems, fluff wise, is that Hobbits do not have mages, animists, bards, or rangers. So is it even possible to learn magic? Not that I am planning on it...since I can only do 1-3rd level spells.....but just curious...
And no, standing behind me only means that someone is blocking your knees....
----- For the Mage (debo) ----- Also, the spell list thing...as far as I read...you can only roll for one list during creation. So if you get one up to 100% (which would be 3 DP for the Noldor), there is one list...than the last 2 points in a second list (80%) would be your one roll to start with. Than with the background giving one list...in theory you could start with 3 lists (if you can roll under 80%)....or you could transfer 2 ranks and get 2 for sure lists.... And as far as I also read...if you fail to get a spell list...the % stays and you can try again when you put another DP into it when you level... ------------------------

Re: Middle-Earth (MERP) RPG (no openings)
I have already rolled for my lists...and succeeded. Only thing I saw about rolling lists was, you only attempt it once per try. Meaning if you were to roll and miss and still have points left over, you can't do it again until you level.
Either way, by the time my magic comes into any real play, I will have the lists, I get 5 points per lvl for them so it's not like I am really worried about it right now....especially since most combat spells are lvl 2, and I can't cast lvl 2 until I hit lvl 2. THough I am good in pp.
I do however have some points in archery and can use a bow...I think i got like a plus 30 or something on missle skills due to my high agi and race rank...may even put another 2 ranks in there from BP. Then use my last bp to get a pp X2 ring or something.
By the way, the character sheet i am using is excel, but the dang weapon/armor fields are password protected and I do not know the password, so I have yet to really figure them up yet. If any ones an excel sheet that works completely can you send me a pm and I will send you my email.

Well, I mentioned min/maxing a couple of days ago because that's what I'm used to with the group I regularly play with. To be honest, it gets onerous, which is one of the motivating factors for me to look for a RM game. I figured it be nice to find a game with more focus on RP and less on the miniatures game that our local sessions usually digress into. Having said that, I found it quite frustrating to try to match my desire to play a bard (favorite class and I looked forward to composing ballads of exploits, among other lyrical feats) with the group's need for "more steel". I didn't want to end up with a character that was extremely weak or could add nothing during combat, but, unfortunately, I fear that's what I've ended up with. That's probably due to me trying to bend the character stats too much to get him into chain with anything approaching a decent OB. I missed my roll on the spell list so I blew a background point to get the spell list that I felt was essential to a bard. I'll chalk this up to a learning experience and move on. Now having said that, I'm changing my mind to just playing one of the warrior templates from the book. Since this is my first time playing virtual, and I haven't touch MERP in 20+ years (I've been slowly collecting for the last few years, though), I'm taking an easy route in and looking forward to just playing a character I didn't spend 16 hours doing quant on. I do, however, want my character to be heroic and famous -- at least a little. I don't think that's going to be their primary motivation, but it wouldn't be interesting for me as a player if they weren't. You'll find, however, that I'm not much of a solo glory kind of guy -- I usually tend to play group support roles. This is why playing a fighter might be challenging -- it's not my usual comfort spot. Anyways, I'm emailing my character sheet presently. I'm very excited about getting a chance to play tomorrow night.
