DH is a much lower level game setting, but the background and whatnot is all the same universe, so very possibly in the future once the campaign is moving, the party will interact with Inquisitors and such from the Calixis sector no doubt as well.

Just to check, the free acquisition is one average item, apart from that we have no other funds? Also, there is no added benefit in treating a skill as an untrained basic skill if you are already trained in it?

Here are the stats on invisiblecastle (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2551881/ , for some reason I went with Marleh as my character name):

2d10 → [8,4] = (12)
2d10 → [10,6] = (16)
2d10 → [7,1] = (8)
2d10 → [1,10] = (11)
2d10 → [8,4] = (12)
2d10 → [3,1] = (4)
2d10 → [8,5] = (13)
2d10 → [6,6] = (12)
2d10 → [9,8] = (17)
Reroll on the 4: 11 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2551883)

I generally would like to to a voidmaster, but I'm getting the feeling their general advances in terms of shooting are quite lackluster, and I want to do that kind of character... is there a way to get out-of-chat talents, say some that appear on the seneschal list?

If you have the room, and you do not mind a newb, I would be more than happy to play, as long as it is not on Saturday. I have played some DH, but I haven't found a stable group to play yet. If you have room I would love to play, and I will most likely be taking a premade character.

To get skills/talents from outside your career path, there are Elite Advances, but they have to be justified by the character's exposure to something that would reasonably give them that skill/talent. You can't just say "I want ______" and expect to get it; their availability is completely up to GM fiat and even then they can cost variable amounts of xp, typically more than what you'd have to spend if they were an in-career skill/talent. See pg. 39 of the RT Core Rulebook for further details.

As far as Voidmaster's combat abilities, it's certainly not the main focus of the class (which is basically controlling spacecraft/acting as XO) but looking over their career path, they seem one of the more martial to me. Sure, they're no Arch-militant, but I'd probably rank their combat advancement behind them and the Rogue Trader, about even with the Seneschal. They're definitely ahead of the Astropath and Navigator, and the Explorator and Missionary also have their own specialties on which to focus their talents. Note: these talents may very well have their own combat implications such as psychic abilities, etc. But they are not purely weaponized in nature.

Also, remember that combat, while important, is not the full extent of the game. It is likely the campaign will have large portions with social interactions and non-combat action. But, if you really want to focus on combat as your main expertise, why not consider the Arch-militant? It's what they do.

KarmelKorn, you're welcome to play, but this is a Rogue Trader game, not a Dark Hersey game. Although, certainly elements of DH will appear from time to time since they share the same setting and the Calixis sector connects to the Koranese Expanse. I have several pre-gens you can play depending on how the party rounds out. After Tuesday I'll not be accepting anymore players until I see how the first couple of sessions go.

Getting talents and skills outside your career will be impossible for beginning characters, once you've earned some XP and the like you can pay for the higher cost if you wish, but for now, that's a no no. Combat career, take the Arch Miliant option. You will want someone to play a Arch Militant, the module even suggests extra pcs as them. Sooner or later you may have to fight and yes, the 41st millenium is a very violent and dangerous place. Also, be sure you read the blurb I posted previously about the Endeavour. That might give you a clue.

Lando, just sent you my character. Sorry it took so long but I had computer troubles as described in the email.

No worries, I'm still looking at pcs and I'm still waiting on Shaman's pc, so we'll probably start Thursday afterall, it just might be a little crazy, but it'll work out and we can flesh out things as we go some more if needed.

To a degree its hard to flesh out our characters too much without knowing the others. Good to hear that we are starting this thursday but I don't think it should be too chaotic as most of us seem ready.

Do you have anyone playing a Rogue Trader yet? I was interested in the class.

I'll need to do the character sheet after work at some time. I presume the background I've given is ok - would you need me to add a little more? My idea for tying the character with the rest was that the character was found by the Rogue Trader when the RT came to the derelict ship Marleh was on, and has basically travelled with him since.
