Indie Game System (Fate): The Seekers
In your line of work, business is, as they say, booming. Unfortunately, when you're a Loreseeker, that's usually not a good thing. The Aerus Empire is in turmoil, with the loss of the great Emperor Oliren. His son, possessed of equal intelligence but far less compassion, being a noble's son through and through, has had difficulties grasping at ruling the People of the Empire. Discontent at new taxes and harsh repression have made for an unruly populace, and combined with the swelling of an increasingly hostile Candori orthodoxy, the Empire teeters on civil strife.
Your order's work, therefore, is preparing for the dark days ahead. Old texts and manuals; encyclopedias and historical treatises; even old folk stories and oral epics - all of these things need to be preserved, and as things get worse, it becomes all the more important to protect them. All of humanity's culture and learning are bound up in these, and the last thing the world needs is to be plunged into a second dark age.
One might hope that in such a humanitarian mission, the Lorekeepers could do their jobs safely and efficiently, but rarely is it so simple. Even if the Candori weren't so enthusiastically burning whatever heretical texts they could find, seeking out the history of the world, and bringing it back safely, is fraught with difficulties and danger. That's why they hire you.
The Seekers are, in a nutshell, mercenaries for the Athenaeum, but they are also something greater. Since the founding of the Empire, the library has been the sole protector of thousands of years of learning and history. And Seekers are their agents and soldiers, those who bring knowledge back, who protect it in dangerous times.
Times like these.
The Seekers will be a weekly game using the Fate system, a simple, deep, and free system geared toward shared storytelling. The players will take the parts of Loreseekers - Part mercenary and part scholar; agents of the Aerus Empire - whose lives are dedicated to the preservation of knowledge and history. With the world going to Hell, their efforts are even more critical. The world is homebrew, a sort of gritty fantasy with Renaissance and steampunk aspects.

Character Creation: First, check out the
system's website. Download the 2.0 version of the rules, and read up on them. We'll be using a 5-phase creation process, and I'd like to walk players through the process. Just have a concept in mind of what sort of character you'd like to create, and we can build it together.
