 Re: Mekton: Rosetta Eclipse
Again this comes down to an "acceptable level of carnage." And let's face it, eviscerated, mangled, pulped bodies is not an acceptable level of carnage in this situation.
As to why not hit the base with the Macabre itself, two reasons: 1) that won't likely destroy it, and 2) whatever we need to access the Baron is most likely in that base. I'd rather /not/ be sifting through kilotons of rock while Baron sits in orbit.

3) Its near a large population centre (the city around the space port)
4) Its near primary usable planetary facilities (The space port)

I just watched TADS camera from a AH-64 (its a controversial vid because of who they were targeting) Maim people with high explosive rounds..War is hell..A death by that will at least be quick...with artillery we are talking outright vaporization if not completey mutilation...you'd be lucky to find remnants to ID the bodies...if bodies themselves..If its gonna bel ike that lets open up orbital bombardment it soudns like with 5 days till the baron comes signature is not a problem. Just remove the traces outright of all life in designated target areas..I'd actually prefer that..more complete..more zanone like.

Also m56s leave the infrastructure intact and are technically speaking..the least damaging weapons in our disposal with a auto shutdown of 7 days...ensurable by sniper fire from mecha from a standoff distance if there are any doubts.

 Re: Mekton: Rosetta Eclipse
If these M56s that everyone keeps going on about are what I'm assuming: Sam's buzz-saw killer-droid things, then you're ignoring the fact that they leave a /mess./ Not just any mess. Bits and pieces of bodies, entrails and blood splayed across walls and ceilings. THAT is a level of carnage that a mind will not accept readily. Rubble and broken bodies, on the other hand, are acceptable. Destruction plays hand in hand with carnage. Without it, you have created a horror, and whether a Concordat engineering team cleans up the mess, or the populus of Gail, there will be questions which could turn all our work to liberate these people, all /your/ work and planning, up on end and turn them away from re-joining the galaxy.

 Re: Mekton: Rosetta Eclipse
That can still be handled...there are worse horrors of war...Ziggy is pretty familiar with the sights and scents you describe...unbelivably familiar..minds harden to the horrors of war...
Ban any personnel from entering that area and let them know exactly what they would see if they went there...We used a special weapon that leaves the base intact but runs everyone down and kills them..It won't be safe for 7 days..and we can also send in another drone team to cleanse the site....Dispose of bodies...the mess.and flat out make that shit spitshine.
Like nothing ever happened except for the BDA. Just don't let them go down there and Zanone will make sure the community leaders know. WWII we firebombed entire cities and discovered the phenomenon of a FIRESTORM...Firebombings of tokyo caused more casualties then the atomic bombs...a few bases wiped out by some buzzsaw drones will not compare to nuclear fire on that planet.
And it can be arranged for cleanup..Easy day.

 Re: Mekton: Rosetta Eclipse
An Ikit colony could be deployed to the area, it would be simple enough for sam to reprogram the buzz saws not to attack Ikits (as im assuming they recognize their own and dont attack each other) and the ikits could be cleaning up the mess and repairing things all the while the slaughter is going on. But as i pointed out before, we have never seen the M56s in action, the ONE i know of is dormant on our ship somewhere, a comforting thought, and we could be looking at a http://tinyurl.com/y9tkru3 situation on the planet. To paraphrase, SCREAMERS are little robotic buzz saw drones that bury under the ground and were deployed by one faction to keep their bases secure. These lil buggers started to self replicate and evolve (becoming walking and flying buzz saws, then evolved and built humanoid and teddy bear screamers) If something messes up...ya...bad, we could loose control then the whole planet and beyond could be screwed.

 Re: Mekton: Rosetta Eclipse
Well, its hard to bring about a regime change when the natives want to string you up by your short and curlies.
Yes, Ferrodon will be able to take out key targets, but she is slow, and her range is 300km.
You might just have to go in and mix it up with Mecha!
and on foot.. with guns.. and.. knives.
PS, sorry for not being around, having to train a new guy at work, and not had that much time for anything other than eating and sleeping.
