Mindbender... Mindbender tends toward the low side of power on Prestige Classes, so I'll allow it. But, again, it needs new fluff. And if the PrC ends up being an issue, I'm going to either nerf or ask you to remove it.

Hello,

I am having a problem sending you PMs, not sure if the server is acting funky or your inbox is full. Anyways, here is a quick sketch of what a mindbender would look like. He would have access to 5th level spells like hold monster and dominate person, which are fun.

Human, Neutral
Level 5 Wizard, Level 9 Mindbender

str 8
dex 10
con 16
int 21
wis 8
char 12

hp 85

skills :

bluff 18
concentration 20
diplomacy 22
intimidate 12
knowledge arcana 22
knowledge arch and engr 12
sense motive 16
spell craft 24
speak languages -> 8 languages total

feats :

eschew materials
improved initiative
leadership ( probably an archer cohort if allowed )
craft wonderous items
scribe scroll
quicken spell
silent spell
still spell

magical items :

????

As you can see, with his diplomacy, sense motive and bluff, he will be a very decent diplomat type. The 8 languages certainly won't hurt that.

I am not sure if he will be an enchanter or not at this point. Might just be a generic old wizard. If I do go enchanter, will probably change silent and still spells to spell penetration to help vs. SR creatures.

Questions :

1) If I got an archer cohort, how much would he have to spend on items? same as a PC?

2) Could I use my craft wondrous items to make things for my cohort and any monsters I charm?

Let me know what you think, if he is ok with you will flesh him out, give him a background, etc. and make a cohort for him. If he needs changes, please just let me know and I will make them.

Thanks,

Athos

Well I have some ideas for characters. What does the group need? I could be a fighter or could add another ranger to the group

The Saturday group has a TWF Ranger, a Human Monk with the Grapple-oriented bonus feats, a Dwarf Barbarian with a mountain of HP, and a Human Cleric of the God of Healing. I don't know if the Cleric will stick around, though... What the group really needs is a Sorcerer or Wizard. Or they could use another Cleric. They recently lost their Sorcerer and have no arcanist any more, and the Cleric's player seems a little overwhelmed by the class.

Athos: Got your PMs. I think the server was a little odd, since my only PMs were the two you sent me. :P At first glance, the Mindbender you submitted seems okay, but I still need to give it a thorough look. And, unfortunately, that will have to wait, as I'm away from my books most of this week.
As to your questions, Leadership should be fine. We've already got one Cohort in play. As for gear, he gets NPC wealth according to level. If you want to use some of your own WBL to make some items and equip him, that sounds fine. Same goes for charms/dominates/thralls. However, if there is another player looking to take the archer slot, I'd ask for you to drop Leadership.

And we need to figure out a new description for Mindbender... Send me a PM with your e-mail so I can get the Setting Guide to you. After that, we can work out some new Mindbender fluff. :)

Athos: I will give your Mindbender a detailed look today or tomorrow. FMTG (Monday game) will meet again on the 27th (this coming Monday) at 7 PM Pacific. There's no need to scramble to get things done, you have some time. We certainly wouldn't mind you lurking on the next game, get an idea of the characters and players and answer some questions. :)

It's been a while since I ran OpenRPG but I've used it before, and am familiar with 3.5e ruleset. I'd be quite interested in this if there's room for one more.

The Saturday game has an open slot. You'd be welcome to join. :)

Athos: Sorry this took longer than anticipated. There's a few things I'd like you to take care of with your character sheet, in addition to lining up gear and such.
Please list the point-buy values for your ability scores (including level bonuses and magic items, where applicable). HP is 86, by my count. Please list how many ranks you have in each skill.

As a reminder, there will be a session of the Monday game tonight (gee, who'd have thought? ;) ). We meet on the OpenRPG Dev II server around 7 PM Pacific.

Do you still have room in either of your games? I don't enjoy playing wizard-like classes as my IRL Int is too low to remember all those spells, but I am able to play Clerics, Rangers, Fighters effectively. Been waiting to try a rogue if thats what the party needs.

str 8
dex 10 --> 2 pts
con 16 --> 10 pts
int 21 --> 16 pts
wis 8
char 12 --> 4 pts

total 32 then +3 level bumps on int

my stat sheet / node I sent you in Open should have the skill ranks, I list them as total / ranks with total including the bonuses from stat mods, synergy, etc.

The Saturday game still has an opening. They could really use an arcanist (Sorcerer would be fine), but I can and do just as easily tailor fights to what they have. I must admit I find it a little amusing when you say you can't remember Wizard spells, but will play a Cleric just fine. If you haven't heard of it before, I recommend the SRD as a handy resource when playing any casting class. Easy to have it open during the game and quickly look up your spells.

Yes, and with that point breakdown, things look mostly settled. We already discussed dropping the Flaw-Feats... The only other thing I see needing changes is the spell list. Here's a little list of what needs changing:
    The Orb spells are not available for this game.
    You have too few 1st-level spells known (should be at least 9, depending on scribing and level-up choices)
    Not counting 0- and 1st-level spells, you get 4 spells known of each level for free. Any others will cost you (scribing, etc.).
    Vest of Resistance is not available (non-Core).
    Not counting the Vest or spell costs, I have it marked as you spending 223,000 GP, out of a budget of 150,000. Any items you crafted yourself, please mark on your sheet. And don't forget to reduce XP accordingly.

There is one other thing, but it is relatively minor... It looks like we'll have enough people (and casters) to not worry about having an archer. Most of the group can fly in one way or another, and spells cover distance. So I'll give you the option of keeping or dropping Leadership. As your cohort for Leadership is not yet designed, the cohort would have to be introduced as another character at a later time... Or you could drop Leadership and pick up something else. Your choice. :)

Well for clerics its a simple matter of knowing spells and listing it. Wizards can also cast spells they actually know in their spellbook. That sort of bookkeeping is rather tiresome for me personally. But I'll give wizard a try, never know until you try right? :D
