 Re: Interest Check - D&D 3.X Wednesdays 7pm CST
Vash - I read your post about the Astral Plane being the setting. To be completely honest, I do not care what the setting is as long as there are no big inconsistency in the world. I always get hung up on things that defy physics with no solid explanation on how it works (what use of magic and why). Whether we travel through space or across an enormous plane of existence, as long as the group is stable and the game play fun, I will enjoy it.
Tolen - I spent a few hours thumbing through True Sorcery and I wasn't too impressed. I liked the idea, but True Sorcery is not D20. I did manage to get my hands on a copy of Monte Cook's World of Darkness which I will look over. I'm assuming the only thing out of the setting you would want to use is the Magic System, which from what I can gather is similar to True Sorcery.
Character Stats:(In order of favorite to least favorite)
I've always used (when DMing) a 32pt buy system with everything being 1 to 1.
EDITED: Vash - Yes, the statement I made was a stupid one. It is now gone.
The standard Pt buy in the DMG
Rolling 4D6 (drop the lowest) for attribute scores and then placing the scores where you want them.
16, 16, 14, 12, 10, 10 place how you want.
16, 16, 14, placed how you want and then roll for the other 3 attributes (Roll 3D6, first roll goes into the first open attribute you and so on. No rerolls)
I'm sure there are others that I've missed/forgotten.

 Re: Interest Check - D&D 3.X Wednesdays 7pm CST
I'm very interested in playing, however, that time translates to 6pm for me and my family and I eat dinner at 6pm. So if you're willing to push the time back or put up with me being 30-45min late, I'd love to join you. I'm fairly new to OpenRPG but I'm reading through the manual and I feel confident I can manage. I typically play healers or rogue type characters; though, I do enjoy playing other classes as long as I'm filling a 'need' in the group. All of the story ideas you guys have suggested sound good to me, so I'm fine with whatever campaign you guys decide. Just tell me the rules and I'll roll up a character and play along as best I can. My preferred methods for rolling stats that were listed above are first: 4d6 drop the lowest and place where you choose; and second, 32 pt buy system. However I'm willing to go with whatever the group decides.

 Re: Interest Check - D&D 3.X Wednesdays 7pm CST
it's up to the gm to make an encounter challenging according to the pc's level and abilities. it doesn't make sense to say that higher abilities allow more challenging encounters, because challenging is relative to the scores. if scores are lower, the dm makes the ecl lower, and vice versa. higher ability scores would actually make encounters easier if the dm just uses the table of what ecl is "challenging."
i've used pathfinder's high fantasy point buy, and it's fine, but since a lot of the material the dm uses will probably be from d&d 3.5, we mighit want to use the 3.5 point buy--30 or 32

 Re: Interest Check - D&D 3.X Wednesdays 7pm CST
Vash, I read your post. If everyone wants to do it that way, then I will, but I'm not overly fond of planar activities.
Would 7pm central work for everyone? Regardless of when we start, we'd only run for two or three hours at a time, maybe four at most. It depends on how well we are all getting along and how much fun we are having.
And if the sci-fantasy idea just really grates on folks' nerves, we can scrap the space travel idea, and set it on a single planet. The story as told so far would only change insofar as needed to remove the space stuff. Unless you all have better campaign seeds to work on? I'm pretty easy going, and only typed up the first idea that came to mind.
I've been reading the True Sorcery stuff in preparation, and I think I agree with Zalun. It isn't as fantastic as I was originally remembering (it has been a while since I went over it). I do like the idea of free-form casting, though. I recall enjoying the system from Iron Heroes, which is why I think the newer version from WoD d20 might be a good fit. (Not that I'm saying that WoD20 is the same system, just similar.) In fact, I'd play Iron Heroes, except calculating token pools got tiresome really quickly, and I was in one of the playtest groups for the bestiary.
Speaking of Malhavoc Press materials, I have had one possible player mention to me a preference for Arcana Evolved.
Psionics anyone? No one has mentioned a word about it, so I don't know if it's a good idea or not.
In short, the campaign is still in its earliest stages, and we can shift rulesets around until we have a group that is happy and having fun.

 Re: Interest Check - D&D 3.X Wednesdays 7pm CST
My schedule is pretty flexible, I am good after 5pm CST until Midnight CST. It would be fine by me if we adjusted the time to allow other players to join.
I don't have a problem with the Sci-Fantasy setting, but I do have a few question, some of which I expressed earlier.
I just spent the last few hours going through the new WoD casting system. I have to say that it is very well put together, and if you want to use a free form casting system I would vote that we use it.
I am not familiar with Arcana Evolved, and I have never messed with Psionics.

Looking to start playing. I'm a new player, not much experience. I have played in the past but still have no real experience but would still like to play.

 Re: Interest Check - D&D 3.X Wednesdays 7pm CST
So... most of the books you are talking about are unfamiliar to me, but I can get them if you just give me a list of books to research.
I actually liked the idea of sci-fantasy mix, I was usually the pilot when we played space fantasy games in my old group. I liked building starships, it was fun.
Still, I'm fine with whatever the group decides. I will probably pick a more traditional character either way, if just to reduce the amount of books I have to reference. I like seeing what other people want to play before settling on a character though.

i'm willing to use true sorcery or nwod or arcana evolved, as long as i can still get a humunculus familiar and the feat craft construct.
I don't really want to space travel in this game, but psionics are fine.
Just a thought, but have you considered using the 3d6 variant? please no one run away, it's up to him!

I've never played with psionics before, but I'm okay with them.
3d6 variant... are you talking about rolling up stats with just 3d6? Or something else?
