Well the hagster is now a skunk. That was a very challenging encounter. It left you tense as someone facing a life or death situation should. It made poor Cyst think of all his options on every round. So credit is due to ark and I think he played the caster/hag up to its abilities. Couple of observations: This could have been a TPK and without some good luck should have been a TPK. Cyst made a couple of lucky DC22 fort save rolls and cyst's fort saves are not good. With average luck Cyst would have/should have fallen to the ground with no strength leaving the melee specialists to fight the hag. With an AC of 34 the melee specialists had no fighting chance in this encounter. If you took a 10th level fighter type with full BAB and they had +10 to hit, +4 for good strength, +2 for greater weapon focus, and lets give him a +3 magic weapon...you arrive at +19 to hit. With the despair at -2, you arrive at +17 to hit. With an AC of 34, you hit on a 17 meaning a good melee specialist good not use any kind of power attack...and still have a low probability of hitting. The problem is we don't really have a full BAB character. The RNV doesn't really assume that roll to later levels assuming he doesn't take too many cleric levels. So the melee types had almost no chance in that encounter. The leaves the rest of the party to try touch attacks or use supernatural abilities like lightning as Slassz did. Actually I think the rest of the party did the best they could have done under the circumstances. Lass' touch attack was the right think to do but the RKV doesn't have a lot of cleric levels to fuel a high level inflict touch attack. Slassz's lighning helped. There is no doubt about it this encounter was CR13 (5 for the hag, 8 for the powerful levels of full caster). Cyst really was the only one who had a chance with this thing....using a lot of high level spells. So I think we played it well and there probably would and should be times where only the caster has a chance to take out a boss type encounter and there should be instances where only the melee specialists have a good chance to take out the boss...but I still think we played it well but it easily could have gone the other way....TPK.

Just FYI, we'll have a short session today of just 2-3 hours, as I have too much stuff to do tonight and will be ending the session around 9 pm Pacific. I'd like to start the game on-time but it looks like I may be delayed slightly with lunch and stuff since the Pathfinder game ran too long with chatter afterward while I was trying to save my files and leave.

Post taking a break
hey Ark,

I'm going to bow out for a while. Late nights are killing me. My wife gets up at 5:30 so it just leaves me in a zombie like condition on Mondays. Ideally I need to get to bed earlier but we never seem to get going to well after the official start. The net result is not a whole lot of momentum by the time I go to bed. sorry. Anyway - just write cyst out in a non destructive way and if I get the urge to endure the early mornings again, i'll let you know. Sometimes I have 6:00 AM flights which mean 4 am type wake ups....its just wearing on me. i've enjoyed 3 years of playing.....need a bit of a break. cyst

Understood, Cyst.......... If I can get things to run an hour or two earlier at some point I'll do so.

Lots of bad luck with this campaign lately, really discouraging, but for now I'll keep it running and keep trying to get things turned around. :(

Hey Ark

Won't be able to make the game tonight. My grandma has pneumonia, and is over 100, so we aren't sure she will make it through the night. My mom and I are going to be staying with her and seeing if we can do anything. Not really much to do except make sure she isn't in pain...

Anyways, see you Wednesday.
