Newbie Wishing to Learn the Ways of DnD
Hey, so I've always wanted to play DnD, but I never knew anyone to play it with. I had one friend who let me borrow his books so I've read a few of the manuals, but have really only played like one small-scale game. I tried with another friend to play by post, but we only got through one little mission before he dropped it all. So, I'm as new as they come.
I really want to get into this, so I was wondering if there is anyone out there that maybe could take me under their wing and teach me the ways of DnD and help me get into a game or two. I jumped the gun already and have already installed OpenRPG because I wasn't too into the forum way of playing so looking to do some virtual tabletop playing instead.

It'll help potential gamers/DMs if they knew what version you'd like to play. D&D has a 30 yr history, so its got a bunch of versions.
I personally play/DM D&D 3.5 and the Pathfinder (3.75) games myself. Although, I started with original D&D and 1st ed AD&D and still own them.

I think I would have to go with DnD 3.5 too, as that is what the books I read are, and from what I've seen from surfing around it seems to be popular. Also, I think that would be a good starting place for someone new to the RPG world.

Have you seen the OGL sites? D&D 3.5 http://www.d20srd.orgPathfinder http://www.d20pfsrd.com/

I've seen the first site, its pretty awesome, but I couldn't find it again. Thanks for the links. I'll have to look more into Pathfinder, seems pretty popular.

You're welcome and do check out Pathfinder. I might even run a game.
