Re: New Pathfinder Game for Thursday Nights, Pacific Time
Ok, just to let everyone know, there is another player not on the forum that is working with the GM directly over YIM.
She will be playing a half elf gunslinger it looks like. She liked the ship idea and was willing to contribute 2k gp if everyone else was...
Got a pretty good party so far.
Looking forward to gaming with you all.

Awesome, barbarians rock.
Looks like we have a magus joining us as well...
Yes, on traits, you get 2 at the start.

If there are 5 of us, we can each put aside 2,000 gp and buy / commission a sailing ship, which in PF is only 10k.
That requires a crew of 20 and can carry 150 tons of cargo.
I am up for it... Hmmm... I was thinking Keelboat, because it is the template for a shallow draft ship. They require a smaller crew. If there is no trade, we can't expect to find docks everywhere we go. I guess we can anchor offshore and use rowboats to reach land. Keelboats and Viking style longboats can be beached. They are a little smaller and cost less. We could buy 2 (or 3) to avoid "putting all our eggs in one basket". Think Mayflower and Speedwell or Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria. In both cases, one ship had problems and the other(s) came to the rescue.

Re: New Pathfinder Game for Thursday Nights, Pacific Time
I like the idea of multiple ships, but to start, I don't think we will have enough gold...
A sailing ship can cover 48 miles a day. A keelboat only 10, according to the CRB.
3 keelboats would need a crew of 24, a sailing ship only 20. So not a big difference there.
A sailing ship will have a rowboat, but I don't think we will need it, anywhere that is large enough to trade with us will have a dock for their fishermen.
If we can gather 100 tons of cargo to take out, and bring back 150 tons of imported goods, we should easily make enough to buy a second or maybe even a third ship.
A viking longboat requires too many rowers for us to probably start with, it will be difficult convincing even 20 sailors to leave their homes and go on a long and uncertain voyage. Once we are successful though, it shouldn't be a problem finding new recruits.

Re: New Pathfinder Game for Thursday Nights, Pacific Time
Characters are due today...
So far we have a sorcerer, a magus, and a gunslinger. A NPC cleric will be provided if noone wants to play one.
Your character sheet doesn't have to be perfect, last minute changes will be allowed before we start, but after we compare notes...
So either post those characters, send Nathan a link in PM or whatever, but please get them in today.
