Re: The Jericho Reach: House Rules
Your Character's Personality (so what are the limits)
This is not for the current players (for they already have the idea, but it is for those new and considering joining)
When you create a character that will also be part of a group (a group of other players) there is some social rules that we need cover. It is acceptable and quite common to create a character that may not mess well with the group (or another player at the least). This is fine. You may create a character that is a loner type, this also is fine. Maybe, you are wanting to play someone who is anti-social or has no social tact at all; now this could also be fine. What makes the difference in rather your character is okay to play in the campaign is rather or not realistically the character would be allowed to stay in the group (team, or squad in this case). The answer is quite simple, while the players may not have a say initially in who is brought into their team the GM (as the Watch Captain) does. The Watch Captains job is to insure that the team can and will mess well enough to accomplish the mission and goals of Deathwatch.
With that said in the campaign what will not be allowed by the GM:
Is player to player killings or even serious injuries to another member of the kill-team.
No PC sabotage actions will be allowed of any sort.
That is pretty much the limitations (unless something happens in game that was not covered). Remember, rather your character is liked by his fellow members or you like them a group of players have to have a realistic reason to continue to get along. No group ever truly runs smoothly, and even those that get along will come into disagreements. Over all each player has an unwritten obligation to show value or worth to the team in some manner. As you role-play your characters ask yourself would he (your character) be likely to stay under the Deathwatch service or in this squad without showing at least from time to time why you are with the Squad/Deathwatch in the first place.
I hope you don't all plan to play "Cookie Cutter" agree with everyone all the time characters (that not realistic for most groups formed of different personalities). But, we don't need a Deathwatch Space Marine going "Postal."
