 Re: MERP RPG (1 opening)
Welcome to MERP snowquilter, glad to have you and your husband. Everyone, please email me your completed pcs as you get them done.
The War of the Ring has ended with its destruction in the fires of Mount Doom and the fall of Sauron and his Nine, however, Middle-Earth is far from free of evil. Orcs, Trolls, Dragons, Men and other evils still lurk and dwell in dark places and will give King Elessar much trouble for years to come.
Will you stand against the darkness and help thwart these evils? The 4th Age of Middle-Earth calls heroes like you forth!
Game will start in and around the area of Bree and the Barrowdowns. However, pcs need not be from Bree.
Game Time/Day: Saturday evenings 9-1 am EST. Start Date: tentatively Sat Dec 11th Timeline: Fourth Age 1 Game: MERP 2e rules with possible Rolemaster expansion later on. House Rules: 100 gp to start (ignore 2 gp starting funds), you may pick your background options or roll them randomly. However, if you wish to combine them all into one mighty magic item/heirloom or the like, you must seek approval from me first. Also no Orcs/Trolls/Corsairs/Easterlings/Haradrim/Variags/Black Numenoreans as pc races. Noldor are also going to be rare. Sindar or Silvan elves ok, most other men and dwarves, hobbits are alright. Also you may reroll your attributes if they're all lower then 65 one additional time, keeping the results. Remember that you can replace your lowest stat with a 90 for your prime attribute. Also remember any stat below 20 can be rerolled at any time.
Sheets should be in .doc/.rtf/.txt/,pdf or pc node files preferred, but the .xls file that trollblood offered will work too. Send me your completed sheets to my email at landothearchmagi at comcast.net.

Depending on how you wish to spend your background options will give you different options to choose from. You can roll randomly or pick or work up something with my help.
First tell me how many ranks in bow and 1handed edged and 2handed edge you got and then you can work with different options.
Here are some examples:
You can substitute any style sword/axe/weapon for these..
1 background option: +15 Broadsword (made of Arborang with Numenorean runes) with scabbard OR +1 spell adder (wand/staff or something) or x2 power point multiplier (ring, amulet, brooch etc) 2 background options: +30 Broadsword (made of Arborang with Numenorean runes) with scabbard OR +15 Broadsword (made of Arborang with Numenorean runes) with scabbard +15 Bow or Thrown missile weapon made of some fine wood/steel (I'll look up the material) You could spend more pts to get something like "of Slaying Orcs" or the like too. Or you could spend an option to get an item like a pair of magic boots/cloak or some other device that enhances a skill +15 bonus or something.
There are lots of examples in the books/supplements or just run your ideas by me. Out of curiosity, are you suggesting that if we spent 3 points, we could pick up a +30 item with additional properties? Like something from Treasures of Middle Earth? Is that book considered part of the campaign canon? I'm assuming, of course, that if it is, obvious things like Anduril would be out of scope. Snowquilter and I are working through our characters now, and are working through background options, skill development, and equipment at this moment.

Re: Middle-Earth (MERP) RPG (no openings)
For Snowquiter: My Burglar is heavy focus in Hide, Pick Lock and Disarm Trap. While the rest of my skill points are spread a little bit, he is a Thief first and foremost (yeah, he can fight....but who wants to fight when you can smoke....). Right now I am sitting around +50 for Pick and +30 for Disarm. I only mention cause it would sux if we both built for the same thing (depending on how people feel about overlap....) just thought I would let you know....

I don't mind if others want to overlap with me on combat skills. I don't want to be the entire front line. Ouch!

Treasures of Middle-Earth is being used by me for treasures and background material. All MERP books are considered game canon as I will be using material from them and the books primarily. Yes, its possible to get one unique item or something special, however, it will cost 4 or more options depending on what you want. Any "slaying" costs 2 options by itself. Anything you'd like run it by me either via email/IM/pm.

That's good, because some locks/traps are very dangerous or challenging (with penalties to checks) so having a high skill will be useful. Remember to feel free to specialize your pcs to perform their professions benefits, also, make sure you got at least a rank in a weapon or armor skill too.. smiles.. even Bilbo fought.

Re: Middle-Earth (MERP) RPG (no openings)
I pretty much have my mage done. He will be Nordor as stated above and a mage.
Due to magics limitedness at low lvls, he is also a decent archer. When he comes into his own with magic...I have a good number of pp, just not lvled up enough for spells yet. Anyways, his focus is generalist, holding defense, preception and another essence list, with light and fire law making up the rest of this magic lists.
Since I don't plan on taking any more spell lists, I am not sure if I am suppose to roll for them, or just take them automatically.

I personally HATE the rolling for lists. I was lucky I got one list as a Ranger.

I'll probably be spending background points to get one. That or scrap the bard and go for a warrior since the bard's a bit more gimped than I thought he'd be. Man it's been a while since I've read or played this thing
