Post OpenRPG missing menus
For some reason when I start OpenRPG lately there are no menus at the top. When I start it from the command line there does not seem to be any error messages.

system_check.py:
OpenRPG System Info 01-28-11
OpenRPG Version: 1.8.0
OpenRPG Build: 090712-00
Python: 2.6.6 (r266:84292, Sep 15 2010, 16:22:56)
[GCC 4.4.5]
wxPython Version: 2.8.11.0
Platform: Linux-2.6.35-25-generic-x86_64-with-debian-squeeze-sid

Two things i can think of ....

Have you tried deleting your layout.xml in your my file folder then restarting? ( That may do it but I doubt it. )

or

Have you always used wxpython version 2.8.11.0 ?

Or have you recently updated to that? ( some system auto update to the newest version )

I know that some people have problems with it conflicting with openrpg.

Possibly using wx version 2.8.10.1 will fix this. ( I know this version works for me and other have said that it fixes some of their problems )

wx no longer lists this version for download so you will have to hunt around for it. Best bet is scorceforge.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/wxpytho ... /2.8.10.1/

You'll have to figure out which one is for your OS.

You'll want to uninstall the previous version. The uninstaller should come with the download.

I'm not 100% sure either of these will help you. Just taking a shot here.

I tried deleting the layout.xml file, that didn't help. I have been using that version of wxPython since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10, there was an issue early on, but I was able to fix it by replacing FNB_COLORFUL_TABS with FNB_COLOURFUL_TABS in the openrpg/orpg/orpg_windows.py file. To my knowledge there has been no updates to wxPython, but I could be wrong about that. The solution here might be going back to 10.04, which is at least an LTS release.

I finally broke down and installed Traipse. Oddly enough, whatever is wrong with OpenRPG has been fixed in Traipse. Now my problem is Traipse does not seem to want to update. I do not have time right now to figure out what the problem is, but next weekend I run it from a terminal and see what error messages appear.

Probably because it updates to the most current stable when you first install and there are no updates available.

Okay, that makes sense. Looks like everything is working fine under Traipse then. I even updated my server, which I had not done in about 2 years. If things go well for the next couple of weeks, I will see about getting my whole group moved over. Those guys hate change, so it will probably be an uphill battle.

The first problem cropped up pretty fast last night. Everyone using the old OpenRPG client with the Traipse Server was seeing font color HTML code in the chat window. It looked something like,

Code:
<font color="#00400">Test</font>

So my solution was to make everyone upgrade to Traipse. With my group of old grognards, you can imagine how much fun that was.

Rather than make everyone switch to traipse why not try fixing the problem in traipse?

Or are we just going to throw compatibility out the window?

Paul ... the user moved to Traipse because there are problems in the current 'standard'. I am more inclined to believe the problem is not found within Traipse.

Well we will never know if we don't look. Which ever end the problem is in it should be found and fixed or at least documented.

If there is going to be a build up of conflicts then open and traipse should make a complete split so one is not tied down by the other.
