Post Noob questions on if this is the framework for me?
I've got a bunch of questions, and I'm a bit confused by all of the different web pages out there. There's no nice central wiki which would help answer all of them. I'm trying to decide if OpenRPG is for me.

Features I am looking for:
- php / browser based UI. Other client side technology is fine, java applet, javascript, *maybe* flash.
- integrate with a forum like vBulletin (Maybe just for user login. I can hack the php / db access myself to get this to work.)
- User created content. (Users can make maps or create items, build their own fortresses, maybe if they have enough points of some kind or are added to a certain usergroup / moderator group.)

Requirements
- This is going to be hosted on a webhost where I don't know if I can install python or wxPython. E.g. godaddy.
- Instructions indicate I need to run "start_client.py to Launch OpenRPG"
I want to run this on a server in which I might not have shell access. Is there an apache module or php scripts this can use instead so this doesn't require manual start on the server?

Thanks for your replies and your help

OpenRPG is not what you are looking for, unfortunately I do not know of any software packages that meet your requirements.

Thanks for your fast reply.

If I losen the requirements, do you know of *any* php based RPG / or multiplayer game that I could integrate with a forum like vBulletin for user login? (Again I can code enough php myself to either hack the login to use the vB database, or I could write my own scripts to sync the user authentication data.) Any genre is fine.

Are you looking for an RPG or a Virtual Game Table? If you are looking for an RPG there are many out there you just need to search the net and find the one you like. If you are looking for a VGT then I would recommend you code dice rolls into a chat software. I am not sure what you would do about a map, but there are a lot of options, just search the internet.

I don't think I want a VGT.

A search for php MMORPG mostly shows games you can play for free which others host on their own sites, but do not provide the source code for download.

Most searches for php MMORPG give results liek this:

http://freshmeat.net/projects/phpmmorpg/

Or sourceforge which have been inactive for like four years :(

I suppose I could use one of those as a source base, but without active development or anyone giving positive ratings or good references (claiming they used this product and showing an example on their website.) I fear things like security is not being tested, maintained or proven.

Have a look at Rpol.net, if that is what you are looking for, either use Rpol.net or contact the admins and see if they can help you.

This is what I've wanted to hear for five years, now. I did some work on gametree elements in earlier releases of OpenRPG, and have had a few discussions with Snowdog regarding the object model at the application level.

What's the server side language you guys are thinking of AJAXing? JSP? ASP? PHP?
