Does anyone know if it is possible to use custom fonts with the /desc or /box (quotebox plugin) functions?

This should be possible using basic HTML fonts inside font tags.

There's a plugin which is advertised as allowing easy use of /d style formats but I think it is mostly colour... I've not used it myself. But yes. The chat takes basic HTML.

I made a (almost complete) list of acceptable elements here:

http://openrpgnotes.wiki-site.com/index.php/Chat#HTML

The chat window that OpenRPG uses is HTML based so it can accept HTML tags (there's an option to disallow the tags). However the HTML it accepts is pretty basic and consists of:

* bold, italics, underscore and so on
* font changes including colour and size of fonts, and other tags that basically change fonts (eg headers)
* superscript and subscript
* tables and their background colours
* <hr> creates a horizontal divider / line
* <br> and <p> and <div> though div doesn't allow you to do much with it
* <a> links and <img> images
