Hi all

I am trying to get OpenPRG running on my Ubuntu PC - I am a bit new to Ubuntu and completely new to OpenRPG.

I used the Ubuntu Software Center to install OpenRPG ... it installed ver 1.7.1 - it claimed to have performed the install with no problems at all.

However, OpenRPG does not appear in any of the Application menus nor is there an icon for it on my desktop. I have used the search function to search the File System for OpenRPG but it has found nothing.

So my question is - has this actually installed or not? The Software Center is telling me that it is installed but I can't find any trace of it. Is there a particular folder I can look for to confirm if this is installed or to find a log file that might tell me what went wrong?

many thanks

Sounds like your problem is with the Ubuntu install center. I've never used that.

Thanks for that ...

Any idea where the OpenRPG would install to if it had worked, so I can look and see if it is there?

many thanks

No. I would not recommend using 1.7.1 anyways. You are going to have problems connecting to a server. The problems are because of the version of Python used in the older, 1.7.1. Newer versions of Python have new methods that older versions will not work with.

Suffice it to say, if you have a version of Python greater than, I think 2.3, you are not going to be able to run 1.7.1 and connect to a server.

OK - sounds like the best bet is going to be to uninstall the version installed by the Software Center and manually install the later version. I will give that a try this evening ...

Thanks for your help prof!

I think on Windows I can get 1.7.1 working just fine. Is that comment about Python 2.3 for Ubuntu/Linux only?
