Post subject:  Open RPG 1.8.0 - A Few Missing Pieces

For awhile, now, I've been frustrated with the sudden and surprising change to the program I used.

In order to continue playing in my campaigns, I had to uninstall this version and reinstall an older one, but now, I'd like to actually fix this.

I can provide pictures as to what the window currently looks like, and do note, I have tried multiple restarts and uninstall/reinstall of the version with updates done.

I'm stuck, and I'd like this to WORK.

This is what it looks like.

Yes, everything is on, save the Alias Lib. No, I'm not hiding anything on my start bar nor have I lifted anything from the main window as per one of the features.

I also have tried downloading Traipse. There was no change.

Also adding: Clicking "Browse Servers" does nothing at all.

When I first installed Open RPG 1.8.0, I did so via the bundle installation for Windows Vista/7.
The Python that came with it was 2.6.2.

When I then installed Traipse, I decided not to take up on the 2.5.4 which came with it, keeping to 2.6.2.
The wx.Python which came with it was 2.8.10.1.

The window is not maximized, or it was not when the 'error' took place. I have maximized and re-sized the window in the attempt to find some piece hidden, but there is nothing. To be more precise, too, when the 'error' occurred, I had been messing with the feature which allowed me to pull parts such as the map and chat from the main window, and it summarily crashed minutes later, after the map box went permanently missing from view. It is now stuck like this.

The Player Key is not reachable. It is simply a 'pock mark' on the Tree Section.

It looks like that for Traipse as well? Very odd. What version of wx.Python do you have? That is most peculiar.

Thanks. You have a weird problem. Is the window maximized? I've seen weird problems like this when the window never really shows up .. the work around is to unmaximize it from the toolbar. Can you try that?

Just delete your layout.xml file (in the myfiles directory) and OpenRPG will get you a new one (the default).

From there you can try to fiddle again and if you can reproduce the error again then it can be fixed.

I would guess if you re-select the map in the menu (ignore the check mark saying the map ought to be there) then you will get a map. The player list window looks like it just isn't docked so you could drag it back to the corner ... but you're saying that screws up somehow. I don't think the layout system is all it once was but don't know much about it (yet).

----------------

Oh btw, nice pictures! very clear.

I thought this was a clean install or I would have recommended that also.

Presumably he copied over his myfiles directory to the new install (which is what you're supposed to do).

I'll be honest.

Save over the "myfiles" directory at what point? With what, from where?

When I did the installation, or the move from Open RPG 1.7.5 to 1.8.0, I do not really recall much more to be done save installing via the installer.

Also: I found no "layout.xml" file in any of the "myfiles" directories, whether Open RPG or Traipse.

That might be a big problem. That file is created when you start. Try looking the in 'templates' folder and looking for a default_layout.xml. Copy that to your myfiles and rename it to layout.xml
