I have a collection of miniatures you can use: http://my.pogoplug.com/share/po4CKDEVRjwd_hA5kKZFVQ/

I also have the first Tutorial Video up, if you are interested in viewing and/or sharing it. http://www.knowledgearcana.com/traipse-tutorials

I'll post part 2 later this week and record some more video tutorials. As of now I am taking requests on portions of the software that you feel could be better explained. After I take an internet break Ill post around that I am taking requests.

My first issue I had was I imported a great looking XML document with minis from

http://openrpg.wrathof.com/faq1/Mini.xml

When I attempted to add minis the program seemed to hang.
The real problem was the GeoCitoes or Tripod or whatever housed them site was no longer active.

When I tried it just now the "minis" node loaded OK. It contained 3 sub-folders ("Classes", "Creatures" and "Stuff") each containing a number of minilib nodes. Double-clicking on one of the minilibs brings up a dialog with a list of names of the minis. Selecting one (or more) and clicking "Add" then is supposed to add the miniature to the map and that worked with some of them but with a lot you just get the default image that says "Fetching..." with the name / label underneath it. And basically at that point OpenRPG doesn't know if the url is having a bad day or just doesn't exist at all.

Did you get all the way to the "Fetching..." or how far?

If you had only one D&D manual you must have been very old school. In fact it really would have been D&D anot AD&D I think. Or basic D&D where the cleric didn't get spells until level 2 and "Elf" was a class. 2nd edition started the tendency for them to bring out books for the various core class types on how to spend your weaponry proficiency ranks on nice stuff. I seem to recall the illusionist went in and out of being a real class not a type of wizard.

I guess the big concept with 3rd edition is that monsters and PCs ought to be built to the same rules. That was a big surprise to me when I got back in the game after a similar absence. "What the hell? A hand full of goblins can beat em up?!??!??!" I am pretty sure a 1st level group could take down a dozen goblins in the other versions.

XML imported fine.

I "hung" on "Fetching"

I had the bad luck of trying three different non-available images, so I assumed it was linked to a library of bad links.

If there was an "image not available" time-out I would not have assumed the program hung.

I had no problem entering known good images.

I'll check out both the video and the mini gallery, thanks!

Looked at the video. It was helpful. Maybe linking to a video like this under "settings" in a help file would be good.

I'd like to see a vid of logging on to a server, joining a nube-friendly game, and starting to play.

I found a game to join tomorrow night. Looking forward to it.

Not sure about 'joining a nube friendly game' .. because the landscape is ever changing. Next videos will focus on Chat, The Map, and then Joining a Server / Creating / Joining a Room.

Hello, all. Prof, great to see you again. I don't know if this was said, as I'm kinda too lazy to look through all the posts to see if this problem was fixed. However, I have found my own fix for ORPG.
When I first installed it, it asked me to install the two Python programs/dependencies, whatever you wanna call them. I did so, but the mistake I made was to install them into two separate places. When the install finished, I ran ORPG, and bam. The OP's problem happened to me. I then took a look at the install once again, and I realized that both Pythons had to be together. Stupid me. So, I got rid of the old Python26 folder that was wx, and reinstalled 2.8 wx, putting it in the same place as the original Python. I then run ORPG, works great! So, yeah. If you're having that problem, where the command line pops up for a bit, then nothing happens, check to see if both Python and wxPython are installed in the same place.

That's all for now. Catch you on the flipside.

Good to hear. I am sure you are going to see a lot of servers that don't exist. It just so happens that the developers of 'Standard', the version you just installed successfully, are kinda on vacation. At least from what I've read. And it is DJ, the lead of the team, that runs the meta. It's been like that for a few days now.

If you do try to connect to a server and it fails, that server does not actually exist. Try another. Usually one with more than 1 person is a real server.
